FOURM | DUST Release

DVD 4.1 surround

Release Date: June 7th 2008

We are proud to announce the release of FOURM | DUST on the excellent leerraum[ ] label, based in Zurich.

DUST was recorded over a period of some six months, and at the time was very much informed by my experiments and investigations into fractals, and fractions. As the title may suggest to the initiated, these recordings are the aural equivalents of Cantor Dust, a reducing principle of self similarity that was arguably one of the first fractal sets ever discovered. The recordings used “seed” elements to fuel subsequent tracks, and minute particulate samples became the basis for each new piece. Essentially, DUST is one continuously evolving piece, each new soundscape being a reduction of elements from the previous one.

I also sought some kind of poetic corollary with physical “dust”, which is contrastingly derived from a process of accumulation, (mostly human skin, and other random partuclates), so there were to some extent, contrasting and conflicting elements in all. Leerraum [ ] specialise in releasing highly limited pieces to an intelligent audience, and I am pleased and proud that these recordings found a home with this highly regarded label. Note also the inclusion of photography by Canadian multimedia developers, skoltz_kolgen, whose work I remixed earlier this year.  I have been an ardent admirer of S_K’s work for several years now, and their photography compliments the release perfectly.

DUST is available from leerraum, smallfish, or directly from WHITE_LINE via Paypal: whitelineBN@aol.com.

FOURM Remixes Pe Lang & Zimoun, Release Date

Release date: 31st April 2008

We are pleased and proud to announce the release of the final remix for the 2007/2008 period, FOURM remixes Pe Lang & Zimoun. This release marks the final part of the series that began with the  remix of Steinbruchel at the end of 2007. Here, FOURM has taken original and unreleased segments of sound installation pieces from Pe Lang & Zimoun’s critically acclaimed <<untitled sound objects>> series, and re-worked them into a 23 minute epic soundscape that transcends description. To mark the end of this current series, we have created a unique translucent white envelope with CD and art cards, with ultra-minimalist drawings, courtesy of Wes Mills - whose beautiful graphite works adorned the cover of David Sylvian’s “Nine Horses” project in 2006. Wes kindly granted permission for us to reproduce the three images for this project, and it is generally agreed that this is a fine and worthy addition to all collectors of WHITE_LINE Editions, which are currently selling out within a month of publication. Be sure to order quickly, as this edition of 100 will sell fast. Pre-Order from Smallfish, Sounds323, or Inpartmaint in Japan, or alternatively, drop a line to whitelineBN@aol.com to order direct, and be placed firmly on our waiting list.

PRICE : £6.00 GBP

The new series of remixes on WHITE_LINE EDITIONS resumes in October 2008, with new packaging and presentation, and some very fine artists indeed. We are currently concentrating on the release of the Archisonics book/CD, and Archisonics Dossier for the summer. Keep visiting this site for updates.

THE ARCHISONICS PROJECT

ArchiSonics – quite simply a conflation of two words, Architecture, and Sonics, a dynamic, active space where two forms unite, intersect, and interact, a dualism which appears to float in and around each others’ gestural patterns. Buildings surround us, creating and unfolding a processional sonic scenario where sounds generate form, and forms generate sounds.

Despite the fact that architecture and music/sound have differing phenomenal presences, the underlying organisation of their independent formal structures are similar. The purpose of these investigations is to creatively dissect and dissolve the boundaries between the two disciplines, and through experimentation, reveal that there exists between them a consistent and organic union.

The ArchiSonics project has been assembled, not as a definitive and exhaustive study of the dynamics and erosion of two disciplines, rather it has been constructed as an access point to stimulate debate and discussion of the fundamental issues, and perhaps involve other investigators in the task of extending this project as a vital and interactive creative process.

Plan and Section - FOURM

Volumes in Translation For Graham - Andy Graydon

“The division of sounds plays out in terms of approach – The FOURM piece appears to be involved in searching out a language or code structure, the formal elements of a built space. While Graydon’s,  with it’s more ambient drift and reverb-ness, feels like it’s about the space itself, an evocation of a phenomenal response to a volume of space.
Both pieces seem to be searching out a poetics of space or spaces, and how sound often voices that poetics, something that is latent or immobilized in architectural materials, but vivified with the encounter with sound in an aural architecture.” (adapted from a text by Andy Graydon)

skoltz-cover-fpr-web.jpg

FOURM REMIXES SKOLTZ_KOLGEN is due for release on Friday 15th February 2008. We are very pleased and proud to finally have the project finalised, and the sound and artworks represent some of the finest we have produced so far. Skoltz_Kolgen supplied us with a unique, and unheard recording from one of their regular weekly sessions, where experimentation and radical thinking are high on the list of creative approaches. FOURM then took these works and evolved them several stages further, adding subtle layering, and minute fragments form the original work, that has resulted in two very fine pieces indeed. WHITE_LINE Edition 2 -FOURM REMIXES KEITH BERRY

berry-cover.jpg

Scheduled release date: Monday 26th November 2007

After several false starts, finally we are able to bring the second WHITE_LINE EDITION, the much anticipated FOURM REMIXES KEITH BERRY, “VOID PATH” CDR.

FOURM’s 21 minute remix of the minimalist drone master promises to be something very special indeed. Far from being a faithful copy of Berry’s restrained washes of sound, his source material is deconstructed, stratified and re-processed, giving it an edgy, cavernous sound that Keith himself describes as:

”.. a beautifully dark shifting piece, the sound of tectonic plates rubbing under the earth’s surface, a labyrinth of sound…”

Housed in a PVC wallet, the 3″ CDR is accompanied with superb artcards with photography by Maura Wallace-Nichols, & FOURM,  Stasisfield impressario, John Kannenberg, and Italian graphics stylist, sim_ultan, this promises to be a worthy collector’s edition. Once again, this art edition is highly limited to 100 signed, numbered copies, so be sure to place orders in advance to avoid dissappointment.  We are proud to announce that we now have distribution from the following outlets:

SMALLFISH - UK

Sound323 - UK

COLD SPRING - UK

and/OAR - USA

Inpartmaint - Japan

as well as taking orders directly via PAYPAL - address whitelineBN@aol.com

PRICE: £6.50 - Sterling + P&P

FOURM REMIXES STEINBRÜCHEL is now sold out…available from the above outlets only.

KNOT 3 - FOURM Remixes STEINBRÜCHEL - MINI CD- WHITE_LINE EDITIONS

untitled-6small.jpg

The first part of a new series of releases in extremely limited editions of 100. A chance for me to launch my new project, FOURM, and for me to remix the work of those artists  who I most admire,  most of whom work within the field of minimalism.  As a general rule, I am only remixing material that is previously unreleased, live, or in very small editions on CDR, thus giving the audience something new and perhaps unheard within a different context.

The concept of the remix has always given artists the opportunity to re-interpret, re-contextualise, and reconfigure the work of others,  and these little editions are no different. I have likened my own remixes to “KNOTS” - each being a concentrated and focussed area of activity, but each strand of material being discernable from the others. When remixing, I like to keep the source material intact to some degree, and work from this point of origin, gradually building up new layers, and creating subtle new frameworks from within, slowly mutating and changing the material until it becomes something different, something unique, yet still retaining an imprint of the source. Remixing is both a compliment to the originating artist, and in some sense, the creation of a new work, a fusing and juxtapositioning of elements. In this way remixing data of any kind has become a major conceptual leap: making music on a meta-structural level, drawing together and making sense of a much larger body of information by threading a continuous narrative through it.

The work on KNOT 3 is a remix of a live set, “box“ by STEINBRÜCHEL at Taktlos Bern in 2000. I stumbled upon a CDR of the piece quite by accident, and as it was not acknowledged in his official discography, asked him if it could be used as the first edition of this project. I am pleased and honoured that he agreed, and the CDR will be available very soon from a handful of distributors. The source material, “box” can be found at the web address below.  Details on price and availability will follow soon.  Bookmark this page for updates of this and forthcoming projects.

“Culture is remix. Knowledge is remix. Politics is remix. Everyone in the life of producing and creating engages in this practice of remix. Companies do it..Politicians do it..we all do it..This is what life is in the expression of creativity. Remix is how we live.” - LAWRENCE LESSIG
